Registration forms are your first interaction with attendees. This guide shows you how to create forms that collect the right information while keeping the registration process smooth.
Understanding Form Fields
Wave provides two types of form fields:
Standard fields come pre-built and include:
- First name and last name
- Email address
- Company and job title
- Phone number
Custom fields let you collect event-specific information like dietary preferences, session interests, or t-shirt sizes.
Step 1: Access Form Builder
Navigate to your event dashboard and select "Registration" from the sidebar. Click "Edit Form" to open the form builder.
Step 2: Configure Standard Fields
Review the default fields and decide which ones to include. For each field, you can set:
- Required or optional status
- Field label text
- Placeholder text
- Help text for attendees
Keep required fields to a minimum. Every additional required field increases the chance of registration abandonment.
Step 3: Add Custom Fields
Click "Add Field" to create custom questions. Choose from these field types:
- Text input for short answers
- Text area for longer responses
- Dropdown for single selection from a list
- Checkboxes for multiple selections
- Radio buttons for single selection with all options visible
Step 4: Organize Your Form
Drag and drop fields to arrange them in a logical order. Group related questions together. Consider using section headers to break up longer forms.
Step 5: Set Up Conditional Logic
Show or hide fields based on previous answers. For example:
- Show dietary restrictions only if attending the dinner
- Show company fields only for professional tickets
- Show accessibility needs based on attendance type
Step 6: Configure Confirmation Settings
Customize what happens after registration:
- Confirmation page message
- Confirmation email content
- Calendar invite details
- Social sharing options
Best Practices
Keep forms short. Only ask for information you will actually use.
Use clear labels. Avoid jargon or internal terminology.
Provide help text. Explain why you need certain information.
Test your form. Complete a test registration before launching.
Next Steps
With your registration form configured, you can now set up ticket types and pricing for your event.
